40 Before 40 – Part 1

Synchronicity is an ever present reality for those who have eyes to see. – Carl Jung

Here are the activities of the first 20 days of “40 before 40.” It’s been quite an experience adding some new, some random, some fun, and some silly activities to my usual days!

Thank you to everyone who has been a part of this!

1:

Spice Girl Dance

Who remembers the Spice Girls!? When I was in std.4 (grade 6) I loved the Spice Girls!  My best friend, Candice H. had spice girl tekkies! Remember those high heeled tekkies? They were so cool! I remember Amber had a Spice girl party.  I put red streaks in my hair with food colouring and dressed up as Ginger Spice.  A group of us learnt how to dance to “Stop” by the Spice Girls from a YouTube video.  People who weren’t here were also sent the video and they then sent me a video of themselves doing the dance! We had such a lot of laughs!

2:

Spizzys in Onesies!

This was so exciting for me! And that Oup and Dakkie also wore onesies made it even more memorable!  They were my onesies because they don’t even own onesies.

3:

In a World where you can be anything, Be Darth Vader in a Tree

I climbed a tree… dressed as Darth Vader.  It was May the 4th, Star Wars Day, that’s why I had to dress as Darth  Vader.  It was actually quite scary to climb the tree and to stand in it so high.

4:

40 Hour Fast

I try to do a 24 hour fast once a week…. Although I haven’t actually been doing it regularly recently. (Need to start again.) I did manage to do a 40 hour fast.  I already know that it’s challenging for me to break my fast (because I tend to eat everything I see).  I did break it slightly better, but there is still lots of room for improvement!

5:

Trampoline Sleeping

Sleep with my kids on trampoline.  For this one I asked the kids what I should do.  We put mattrasses and duvets on the trampoline, read books and slept there.  It was actually comfortable. When we woke up the next morning, Natey asked: “Can we sleep here again tonight!?” Luckily the trampoline is indoors.

6:

Donate blood with Jamie

I wasn’t planning on going to donate blood.  Then Jamie recommended it and said she also wants to and has never done it before.  Knowing it was Jamie’s first time made it even more meaningful!

7:

Moon catching and stargazing with Leo

I asked Marcus to switch off all the  lights.  Leo and I saw a random aeroplane, we figured out where the Milkyway is and used the Skyview app to find the planets.  We live on a flying ball in space! How bizarre!

8:

Pour some more and draw on the floor

Natey and I drew with chalk in the paving while Marcus braaied some delicious smokey steak.  It was fun just to draw whatever, wherever! 🤣

9

Learn how to play minecraft

I don’t know how Leo and Natey make it look so easy! It’s not! One finger has to change the direction your character looks while the other needs to move.  I managed to put some kelp and lanterns on the riverbed … which was an achievement for me!

Mother’s Day and Cave Hike

This was a super busy and very exciting day! We started off with cold therapy, then the hike and then celebrated Mother’s day too!  Marcus eventually found the hidden cave.  We all felt very adventurous!  There were golden mushrooms inside the cave that sparkled! After the hike, we went to Oup and Dakkie’s house, where we had a delicious lunch.  Then, me and Dakkie went for a massage at Nida. Meanwhile, back in PE, Ouma Jane was visited by Checkers 60.

11

Medicinal Plants at the Botanical Garden

I could write a whole post on this activity!  Linley took me and Leo to Bloem’s botanical garden.

Dress for the job you want, not for the job you have.  Your vibe attracts your tribe.
Prayer Beads.
We even did a Scavenger Hunt.

Wine and Wigs

We had fun at JC’s Chinese Restaurant.  Here’s the link to the video we made.

15

Jumping like it’s 1989

We jumped, we skipped, we did somersaults into the foam, we listened to songs from the 80s and 90s and just appreciated being able to move our bodies.

16

My First Orchid

Marina, my cousin, and family came to visit.  Marina bought me an orchid.  We took a picture of an awkward orchid.  I hope I can keep it alive.
Kate (Marina’s daughter) and Leo then and now.
Next time, Marina and I need to remake this pic!
It was also Anashti’s baby shower where I got to help with the decor.

17

Video Call with Donne

Donne and I have been friends since school and we studied together!  We have visited her in USA where she now lives.

18 Learn to Floss

Floss like a boss, with flair like a bear! Marcus could already floss. It takes some coordination, but I improved!🤣
