Water of the Unconscious – Week 6

Water is one of the most common and powerful symbols in dreams.

In the work of Carl Jung, water is often linked to the emotional and unconscious parts of the psyche. The parts of us that are felt rather than thought.

The state of the water matters.

Calm, clear water can reflect a sense of peace or emotional clarity.

Leo swimming in our cellar when it was flooded a few years ago! (Such a weird memory that it could be a dream!🤣)
When you observe someone swimming in water in a dream, it could mean that a part of you is moving through emotions or inner change, while another part of you is simply watching and trying to understand.
The Great Wave off Kanagawa by Katsushika Hokusai in 1831 has been described as “possibly the most reproduced image in the history of all art”

Rough, stormy water may point to overwhelm, stress, or strong emotions.

Deep or dark water can suggest something unknown or not yet fully understood within you.

Being in the water, watching it, or being swept by it can all carry different meanings, depending on how it feels in the dream.

A question to ask yourself:

What did the water feel like?

Dreams often speak through emotion (more than logic.)

So when water appears, it may be your inner world showing you something about how you are feeling beneath the surface.

For our 6th and final week of this, Once in a Dream Creativity Challenge, here is the Challenge for this week:

Draw, paint, write or create something this week with water as your theme

Here is some of our Creativity for the Week:

Its difficult to paint water!
And believe it or not, this week I have dreamt about so much water its crazy! And in waking life, I forgot about the kettle while filling it!

Jumping the depth of Love🌊 My love for you is wider, longer, higher, and deeper than you can ever imagine.” — Jesus (Ephesians 3:18-19)
As a farmer, water is better than gold, it feeds everything, from the tiniest insect to everything else. Water gives life, but if not respected, it takes fast and furiously, one of nature’s most powerful miracles. When you live in a semi desert, having water is a dream come true, appreciating it as the gift it is. So not a literal dream, but a dream nonetheless, whether from the heavens or from deep beneath us in the earth.
How we enjoyed our swimming 🏊‍♂️ pool.                    My granddaughter laughed with joy!!                                       My grandson try to splash with all his might.                                                   Together we played in the swimming pool, on a sunny day so fresh and cool! 👌.        A special time for us to be . . .      A family bound by love and glee.

And just like that, our six-week Once in a Dream creativity challenge has come to an end.

Thank you so much to everyone who joined in, shared, watched, encouraged, reflected, created, or simply held space with us.

I hope this challenge reminded you that creativity does not have to be perfect or impressive. It can simply be a way of noticing, reflecting, and connecting again.

May you keep paying attention to your dreams and to the subtle, or sometimes not so subtle, messages they may be giving you.

I would love to hear if anything stood out for you during the challenge, whether it was a realization, a message, a question, or simply something that stayed with you. I had many interesting conversations during these six weeks, and also a few small but quite meaningful realizations of my own.

The weekly topics are on my blog, and the previous creativity challenges are also there if you ever want to explore a bit more. I now send out a monthly newsletter for the blog, rather than an email with every new post.

I have also recently started a small YouTube channel where I want to share more reflections around creativity, health, and finding joy in ordinary life. You are very welcome to subscribe there too if it feels like something you would enjoy. Subscribing is free.

I’ll leave this group open for a few more days in case anyone still wants to share a thought, reflection, or final picture. You are also very welcome to send reflections directly to me if there is something more personal you want to share.

With love,
Janny
