“The best thing about happy memories is making them!”
We had an amazing time during our week-long getaway in Mauritius.
We stayed at the enchanting Mauricia Beachcomber Resort in Grand Baie.
The actual purpose of this holiday was to celebrate the milestone 60th birthdays of both Oup and Dakkie (Oup’s 60th, which has already passed, and Dakkie’s 60th, which is still to come). Leo thought we were all there to celebrate his 7th birthday! We all allowed him to continue thinking that.
This time, our focus was on creating a fantastic experience for the kids (while tasting as many cocktails as we could.) We participated in various kid-friendly activities like paddle boating, crab catching, snail finding, hotel exploring, ice-cream eating and rock collecting. The Mauricia Beachcomber Resort’s Kiddies Club is an absolute delight! The people are very friendly and good with kids.
The kids could participate in arts and crafts, exciting treasure hunts, and I was so happy that I could also participate in the pastry making (cookie baking) activity!
My favourite cocktail was the classic pina colada which I already tasted on day 1. I tasted a few others but that one stayed my favourite!
I think the kids will always remember this special time together! I know I definitely will.

Finding our way at OR Thambo International airport. Waiting in the Slow Lounge! They had about 10 different wines on tap! I’m surprised people make it to their flights after being here. 😛Everyone has their own screens! To watch movies or play games! Arrived at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International AirportThe resort is really idyllic! Every evening they have some form of musical entertainment. Our first day at our Mauricia Beachcomber resort. Sea Urchin for anyone? It’s slimy… Yet satisfying. Paddle boat with Oup. They also went in a row boat a couple of times. Chocolate mouth. Leo and Natey made sure they had enough ice-cream. Cute room service. Standing a few steps outside our rooms. We walked to the local market on this day. Glass bottom boat. We saw a huge sea turtle! And lots of fish. We went snorkeling with the same boat the next day. A sea turtle! There’s a real crab hiding in that sand! Local beer. Photo of me skiing! I actually managed to get up! 💪But then smashed one of my toes when getting out the boat so I couldn’t skii again. But I could lounge around with a cocktail in my hand. So no tears were shed. So beautiful! Marcus water-skied almost every day. Rock climbing… Well, rock sitting. At the local market… Using the local bus serviceThe wheels on the bus go round and round… At another beachcomber hotel, Connonier. We had lunch there. After my foot injury I spotted this guy… Do you like pina colada? More cocktail tasting… Bloody Mary’s ! Oup checking out the photos Natey took. The bottled water at the hotel come in bottles which look like plastic bottles but are apparently made from plants and sugar cane… Finding zen outside the spa area. We used the sauna and hammom (steam room) Exploring the hotelSupper is ready! Lots of water sport fun. Two little wanderers watching us eat breakfast. Grow where you’re planted. Relaxing on the beach after supper. At the Nautic Restaurant you order from a menu and a waiter brings you your food. Marcus and I also ate there for a “date night” one evening. I was taking photos and then the chef said I could also join them. Yay! Then I also made some cookies. It took a lot of self control to not eat any cookie dough! My breakfast every morning. Shirt painted at the kiddies club! Chilled vibes. Frozen daiquiris… Delicious! Natey playing some piano. Proof of all the ice-cream which was eaten. Having fun in the sun. It was such a memorable holiday! The food was absolutely amazing! And they had such a wide variety! You could have pizza, fresh pasta or burgers, or you could have fruit and salads or meat or fish! This lady called Leo her prince! Birthday cake. Back at the airport on our way home. We were fetched early from our hotel, which is about an hour’s drive from the airport. Back in South Africa.
