If You Don’t Rest, You Rust
Resting rebuilds, restores and refreshes! They say if you rest, you rust… I think it should rather be: If You Don’t Rest, You Rust!
This morning, while brushing my teeth, I was randomly thinking, “I can’t write about this Clarens trip on my blog because we didn’t do anything.” We were supposed to run a 10km trail, but the entries sold out before we even had a chance. So there we were, in Clarens, with absolutely nothing on our to-do list.
Then I remembered all those self-help books that preach the importance of rest. I’ve always kind of dismissed it because, let’s be honest, it feels a lot like… well… not doing anything. But as I was thinking this, I glanced at my toothpaste and read: Rebuilds. Restores. Refreshes. That’s exactly what rest does! 🤣
Our time of “nothingness” was spent browsing interesting shops, indulging in delicious snacks, sipping on coffee and beer, and enjoying long conversations. The beauty of not being on a schedule and not feeling rushed is that we had time to chat with whoever we wanted and notice more of the little things. We stayed at our favorite spot in Clarens, Clarens Retreat.
We saw Francois bringing his beautiful birds back from the vet, and he explained which ones were pairs and how he enjoys breeding birds in his spare time. He showed and told us the specific name of each breed.
We had a lekker, long conversation with Gerrit and took the time to smell every candle at the Clarens Candle shop. One artist gave me one of her cards because she felt she should(which means a lot!) We tasted Cheese and chocolate at Helli’s Deli and browsed works of art at Art Galleries and interesting food at The Purple Onion.
Thank you to Oup and Dakkie for looking after the kids!
