Deepening My Sugar Story

“Awareness is the greatest agent for change.” – Eckhart Tolle

CGM with pink sticker covering it. (You don’t need a sticker, it just feels a bit more secure.)
CGM without the pink sticker.  This is the LinX CGM.

I’ve started wearing a continuous glucose monitor again.
Not because I’m diabetic.
Not because something is “wrong.”
But because I want to see. To remember. To understand my body more.

If you’ve followed my journey, you’ll know that my sugar story was never just about sugar.

It was about habits. Emotions. Stress. That autopilot moment where your hand reaches for something before your mind even checks in…
That’s why I first worked on rewriting my sugar story. The psychology of eating. The why behind every bite.

And now… I’m going a layer deeper.
I’m busy building my new course, What’s My Glucose?, which will be on Udemy soon. It’s practical, simple, and honestly quite eye-opening. I’m also thinking of running small group sessions over a couple of weeks where we go through it together in real life, learning from our own bodies, not just theory.  (It’s also more fun and motivating to do it with people.)

Because here’s the thing.
You forget.
You really do.
You think you know what food does… until you wear a CGM again…

I realize:
I don’t actually need the snack.
It’s habit. It’s environment. It’s comfort. It’s there, so I eat it.
That’s where this becomes interesting. Because it’s not just biology. It’s behaviour. It’s emotion. It’s awareness.

I’ve recently been reading The Hunger Code by Dr. Jason Fung, and it ties in so beautifully with this idea that our hunger is not just about willpower. It’s hormonal, environmental, and deeply learned. And then you see practical tools from people like the Glucose Goddess, small shifts that can make a real difference…I’ve noticed now already that the “don’t eat naked carbs” advice is very true.  You hear the advice, but when you see it in your own glucose graph it becomes real.

When I see the data, I become a lot more aware. (Almost scared.)  I am still working on my mindset.  That I eventually choose healthy because I really want to. Not out of fear, not because that food “is bad.” But because I really want what’s best for my body.

I am choosing food differently, not perfectly, just slightly better… Bietjie bietjie maak baie!

This is for prevention.
This is for energy.
This is for feeling clear, steady, and well… now. (And preventing future disease.)

I’m wearing a CGM again.
I’m learning again. Remembering.

And yes, I’ll be sharing what I find.
Because behind every meal… there’s a story and a glucose graph.

What is a CGM?
It measures the glucose in the interstitial fluid. (Fluid between the cells.)
…working on it!🤪
