We are the most South now than we have ever been on this planet! We arrived in El Calafate today and our “Big Ice” glacier tour is tomorrow. Very excited!

We hired a “snow kit” for tomorrow which includes hiking boots, gloves, a thick jacket and waterproof pants. I was wondering how I was going to make it with my “holy” walking shoes. (I don’t mean my shoes are holy as in good and sacred, I’ve just worn them so much they now have holes in them!). Tomorrow we are going to be fully geared and equipped to face the huge glacier.

Last night we spent the night in El Chalten and didn’t really want to leave today but we had already booked accommodation and our ice tour in El Calafate. We might travel 3 hours back to El Chalten after a few days here. Neither our guide book nor the travel agency in Bariloche told us how beautiful El Chalten is. You can also do many walks to glaciers and lakes for free once you are there!

It’s amazing how late the sun sets here! At 20:30 it’s still bright and sunny! We spent quite a bit of time on the bus to get here but Route 40 is very beautiful so it was worth it.
