Birthday Drive-In

2020…what a weird year!

I love celebrating birthdays and this year we had to really think out of the box because social gatherings are not permitted (unless it’s a church function.) So… we organized a D-I-Y social distancing birthday drive-in!

Everybody stayed in their own cars and brought their own snacks. We held it at Ladybrand Self Storage and Marc measured out the parking areas beforehand so that everyone would be able to park where they could see the show. I sewed 4 old white table cloths together for the screen and we attached it to the fence. An overhead projector plugged into the laptop was used to play the movie onto the screen and, for the sound we used a FM radio transmitter. Then everyone tuned into the signal on their car radios.

We had a list of 4 movies to choose from… Then I sent out a short survey (with Survey Monkey) and the guests voted for the movie… Dolittle (2020) was the movie we watched. It was a fun movie to watch.

This year I also received interesting “social distancing” gifts like a Takealot voucher sent to my phone, a book to download on my Kindle and a online Thai cooking course!
