Natey’s Star Wars Party
“Your focus determines your reality.” Qui-Gon Jinn, The Phantom Menace

We really went all out celebrating Natey’s birthday this year. We started the school holidays with a bang and had a big party with a gigantic slide and a spitbraai. Natey chose a Star Wars theme and basically invited his whole class. Luckily, it is a small one.
The kids had the best time swimming, sliding, and testing the limits of pool safety. The adults spent most of the afternoon pretending to be relaxed while keeping both eyes on the water. It was comforting to know that people were ready to jump in clothes and all when needed….(Again!) Next year, there will have to be a test session before the party so that only those kids who can actually swim will be allowed to proceed.
To be honest, a kids’ pool party might be too much for the human nervous system, definitely for mine. Next time, maybe we will do something calmer, like watching a movie. It’s much less stressful and much drier.
The spitbraai, as always, turned out perfectly. Ouma Jane was especially impressed with the potatoes.
The weather was another win. The weatherman predicted rain, but once again he was wrong. The kids really had a lot of fun.
Oumie’s suggestion for Natey’s party next year was, “No kids allowed.” It is hard to argue with that kind of wisdom!
