How to make Kombucha
“The road to health is paved with good intestines.” SA Rodgers
Kombucha is a fermented, slightly fizzy drink made when SCOBY is left in a mixture made from tea, sugar and water. SCOBY stands for Symbiotic Culture Of Bacteria and Yeast. (It looks and feels a bit weird!)
Kombucha is a good source of probiotics and promotes gut health. So, basically you drink a small glass a day for health purposes. It helps maintain a good microbiome.
Every time you make Kombucha a new, “baby” SCOBY is formed which can be peeled off the original SCOBY and given to someone else. I see you can also order SCOBY online.
Recipe and Method:
Boil 4 liters of water and add:
6 Rooibos Tea bags, 6 normal tea(Ceyon) Tea bags, 6 plain green tea Tea bags and 1 cup of sugar.
Allow to cool. (Leave overnight)
Add this to a glass jar with your SCOBY.
Leave in a coolish, dark place for 3-4 weeks.
You can then drink your Kombucha or add various flavourants. The options are endless but some examples are adding lemon or lime and or ginger, apple juice and cinnamon.
