Our Quick Getaway to Shumba Guest Farm
You don’t always have to travel very far for a bit of adventure. Sometimes a break from your routine is the very thing you need…and maybe you’ll discover, like I did, that there are a lot of nice places close to where you live.
We drove about an hour to Shumba Guest Farm which is close to Fouriesburg in the Eastern Free State. The place has such a tranquil atmosphere with beautiful views of the Maluti Mountains. You could also see that sandstone castle (Destiny Castle) from the farm…according to booking.com it would cost us R3500 to stay there for a night! (We paid R600 at Shumba.)
Shumba is a equestrian and they sure had a lot of horses on the farm. We took our pups with and they were so excited and shocked to see the horses. Besides barking at a pony outside our cottage for 2 hours they were very well behaved and also enjoyed the short adventure. We went for a walk to a small, muddy dam on the farm and had a lekker braai that evening…. It was an enjoyable, quick, relaxing getaway.
I encourage you to try something new, do something different or go somewhere you’ve never been before….Just maybe, (like Pocahontas sings), “you’ll learn things you never knew, you never knew.”
“If you always do, what you always did, you will always get what you always got.” Einstein
