Food for Thought Summary
My journey into nutrition this month has been a bit like the story in The Alchemist—I went looking far and wide for answers, only to circle back to what I always knew:
Real food, movement, mindfulness and rest are most important.
A few things I want to remember:
Real food is foundational. Choose foods that exist in nature, not those made in factories.
Don’t fear fat—but choose it wisely.
Fat can cause insulin resistance in excess. Especially refined oils.
Movement is essential. Exercise helps lower blood sugar immediately and increases insulin sensitivity over time. It’s non-negotiable.
Stress raises blood sugar. Cortisol and adrenaline can trigger insulin resistance. Managing stress is as important as managing meals. (I know, easier said than done.)
Remember your gut microbes.
How you break a fast matters. I do better with protein and fiber first.
Preparation helps. Having homemade healthy snacks ready helps both me and the kids avoid processed temptations…. I need to be consistent with this.
Processed foods are designed to hijack us. They’re made to be irresistible. Awareness is the first defence.
Water should be our main drink.
Eat real food. Move. Rest. Be mindful. Repeat.

Knock, knock.
Who’s there?
Bean.
Bean who?
Been a while since I’ve seen you. (I must remember to start soaking beans again.)
