#14 What’s the Healthiest Diet?
“In the age of information, ignorance is a choice.” – Donny Miller
So what’s actually true?
No matter which eating style you choose—low-fat, low-carb, Mediterranean, or balanced—there are a few unshakable truths that all the solid science (and common sense) agrees on.
Real food is always better than processed food
If your great great grandmother could cook it or grow it, then you’re good. If you read the ingredients and nobody has a clue what they are, then you should definitely not put it in your body.
Water is the ultimate drink
Not diet soda. Not “lite” juice. Not sweetened iced tea.
Just water.
Add lemon, cucumber, mint, or rooibos if you want a twist. Your cells will say thank you.
Refined carbs are sugar bombs
White bread, white rice, cakes, most commercial cereals, and highly sifted maize can spike your sugar fast.
Moving after meals is a superpower
Just 10–15 minutes of walking after eating helps your muscles absorb glucose. It can flatten your blood sugar curve without any medication.
Dance, tidy the kitchen, walk the dog, chase your kids. Movement = magic. Moving is good in general!
Mindful eating beats rushed eating
When you eat slowly, chew properly, and actually taste your food:
- You digest better
- You feel full sooner
- You enjoy the meal more
- You make better choices
And yes—that pause before eating really helps.
Food additives mess with your gut and brain
Colourants, preservatives, artificial sweeteners, MSG—they may be allowed on shelves, but they’re not harmless.
They mess with your gut microbiome, your hormones, and sometimes your mood.
No one-size-fits-all—but junk food fits no one
You don’t need to eat the same as your cousin, your doctor, or that influencer who survives on celery juice and beetroot shots.
But whatever your path—ditch the junk. Whether you go low-fat, low-carb, or balanced, real food will always be the answer. I know I am repeating this, but I think it’s important.
The truth is simple, even if the noise is loud…

So, before getting confused by low fat or low carb or carnivore or supplements or whatever, first stop the processed foods, start eating real and start drinking water.
