River Destiny Camping

Ain’t no weekend like a lekker camping weekend!

This time we chose to go to River Destiny Lodge in !Gariep. We wanted to go somewhere we can get to without the caravan having to drive over too many potholes. And luckily so, because on our way back our caravan’s tyre burst into a million pieces!

We had just stopped next to the road when Hannah sent a voice message on our camping group warning the group about lots of tyre debri on the road…

It was our tyre! I felt so comforted when everyone who camped with us, stopped with us next to the road. The guys worked together and changed the tyre in less than 10 minutes!

Overlooking the Gariep Dam Wall

This was our 4th October camping trip with the kids and friends. Last year we went to Moolmanshoek, in 2020 we went to Uithoek and in 2019 we camped at Old Mill’s Drift near Clarens. The kids have grown so much since our first trip!

Old Mill Drift 3 years ago- kids ranging from 1 year old to 5 years old.
We all had our own Manual🤣
The kids kept themselves entertained

River Destiny’s Camping facilities are very neat, clean and comfortable. They also have chalets available around the pool area, overlooking the Orange River. The view is very beautiful especially early in the morning! Luckily the kids woke us up early so that we could get the most out of the day. River Destiny has lots of animals roaming around as you enter- white springbuck, impala, ostriches with babies, little ponies, geese and lots of different birds. It felt as if we were on a game drive.

On Sunday morning I walked to the bathrooms early with Natey and said to him: “What a fresh morning!” And he replied: “Did the morning shower and brush its teeth?” I thought that was quite cute! Funny how kids interpret things!

We walked over the swing bridge to the river. I was one of the unfortunate ones wearing plakkies/flip-flops so my feet still feel as if they have thorns in them from all the throns which poked through the rubber soles into my feet.

On Saturday afternoon we went and checked out the Gariep Dam which was interesting.

I think everyone really enjoyed the weekend. It felt as if we were away for much longer than just a weekend! Thank you to our fellow campers! It was a really memorable camping trip.
